About
"Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do." — Brené Brown
Dr. Yuko Kishimoto – Licensed Psychologist
Yuko is a straight, cis-gender Asian female. She is a licensed psychologist with over 17 years of experience providing warm, culturally-informed, and personalized therapy. She is credentialed as a Health Service Psychologist (HSP) through the National Register and holds the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) through PSYPACT, allowing her to offer telehealth services across participating states.
Born in Japan and raised in Japan, the UK, and the U.S., Yuko brings a global perspective and deep cultural awareness to her practice. Her approach is grounded in compassion, emotional safety, and respect for each client’s unique identity and story. Her undergraduate degree in psychology is from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. After starting her graduate training in school psychology, she obtained a PhD from an APA accredited Counseling Psychology program at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas.
She offers a warm welcome to women of color, mothers, immigrants, neurodivergent individuals, and LGBTQIA+ clients. Her integrative style blends psychodynamic and relational therapy with ACT and mindful self-compassion. Insurance, including Medicaid, is accepted. In-person and telehealth appointments are available.

Yuko's Values
Yuko believes deeply in creating spaces where people feel seen, safe, and valued for exactly who they are. She focuses on creating a safe and inclusive space for her clients. Her values are rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to be supported without having to explain or defend their identity.
Neurodiversity is not something Yuko seeks to “fix,” but something she respects and celebrates. She embraces different ways of thinking and being, valuing authenticity over conformity. Her approach is about listening, adapting, and honoring the many forms that intelligence, creativity, and emotional expression can take.

She holds a special place in her heart for women of color, recognizing the unique intersections of strength, vulnerability, culture, and lived experience. Yuko approaches her work with humility and deep respect, honoring the complexities that shape each person’s story.
Motherhood is another space that grounds Yuko’s values. She brings warmth, empathy, and a deep understanding of the emotional and identity shifts that come with being a mom. Her care is rooted in the belief that mothers deserve just as much nurturing as they give.
Lastly, Yuko carries as strong sense of connection to those navigating intersectionality of identities, as well as those navigating life between cultures. She values global perspectives and understands how being uprooted from one's culture can shape identity, belonging, and self-worth. Her values are deeply tied to compassion, cultural humility, and the power of shared humanity.

How does individual therapy work?
My clients typically come to see me every week or every other week. Your appointment typically lasts 45 -60 minutes. The sessions can be conducted in-person, where you come to see me in my office, or remotely, where you will connect with me online using a HIPAA compliant telehealth platform. This is a time slot that is reserved just for you on my calendar. Towards the beginning of our work together, sessions will be used to identify your concerns and goals, and to establish a sense of comfort and trust in the relationship. Follow up appointments are used to address your identified concerns, as well as topics that may come up in your life as we work together.
How long will I need to receive services?
This is a difficult question to answer because there are several factors that play a role in the process, such as your presenting concerns and circumstances. However, treatment goals will be discussed towards the beginning of the therapeutic relationship and treatment is considered to be complete when the goals are achieved. I also view therapy service as one where you can utilize it when you need it, and take breaks from it when you feel better. The process will be a collaborative one in which I will ask you for your input and your preferences as we work together.
